Description/Blazon

SHIELD

Per pale and per fess, between a representation of a contrail palewise throughout Argent, in dexter a stylized pictorial of a Saguaro cactus in the desert Proper, in sinister, a chief Azure (Dark blue), a lozenge Gules fimbriated Or, surmounted by an anchor of the last and in base, per fess a gyronny of thirteen Gules and Or and Azure (Dark Blue), bearing a mullet Copper; all within a bordure Argent (Steel) charged with eight mullets Copper.


CREST

From a wreath Argent and Azure (Dark Blue), an American eagle, wings elevated, grasping in its dexter claw an olive branch all Proper, in its sinister claw six arrows Argent, bearing on its breast a shield blazoned as follows: of the last, a paly of six Gules, a chief Azure (Dark Blue).


MOTTO

A scroll Or, doubled Azure (Dark Blue), inscribed JE SUIS PREST, which translates to I Am Ready of the last.


SUPPORTERS

Behind the shield, a U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officers cutlass and U.S. Navy Officers sword in saltire, points downward Proper.

Symbolism

SHIELD

Dark blue and gold are the colors traditionally associated with the U.S. Navy, representing the sea and excellence. The white contrail dividing the shield suggests the intrepidity and spirit of the Navy. Each section displays a significant symbol in the life of the ships namesake, Ms. Gabrielle Giffords. The Saguaro cactus in bloom signifies strength in the face of adversity and hardiness and fortitude in extreme conditions. The upper right section of the shield bears a lozenge, a heraldic symbol of female empowerment. The anchor represents the strength of the Navy and its maritime dominance, signifying the multi-crew concept of the Littoral Combat Ship class and the ships modern technology. The bottom right section of the shield alludes to the Arizona State flag, the birth state and state represented by Ms. Giffords as a Congresswoman. The silver border conveys strength and reverence, embodied by Congresswoman Giffords throughout her illustrious career. The eight copper stars symbolize Arizona as the Copper State and allude to Arizonas 8th Congressional District, which Congresswoman Giffords represented from 2007 to 2012.


CREST

The eagle alludes to the Seal of the U.S. House of Representatives, symbolizing Congresswoman Giffords as a public servant and elected official for the betterment of her state and the nation.


SUPPORTERS

The crossed Navy cutlass and sword symbolize teamwork and readiness, exemplifying the experienced crew of LCS 10.


MOTTO

The motto, JE SUIS PREST (I Am Ready), represents the motto emblazoned on Ms. Giffords family coat of arms. The phrase connects to naval heritage, preparedness and her willingness to serve.


SEAL

The coat of arms as blazoned in full color upon a white oval enclosed by a dark blue collar edged on the outside with a gold chain, which conveys the diligent and hardworking LCS crews, and inscribed USS GABRIELLE GIFFORDS at the top and LCS 10 at the bottom.
